How To Order Trailer Hitches. Determine the Gross Towing Weight (GTW) and tongue weight (TW) of your trailer. The GTW is the weight of the trailer fully loaded and ready for towing. The TW is the downward push exerted on the hitch ball by the trailer coupler.Check your owner's manual to find the maximum GTW and TW for your vehicle. Important: Do not tow the trailer if either the GTW or the TW exceeds the towing vehicle's maximum towing capacity.
