It is a South American (Brazilian) hardwood that is very durable outside because of its density. It is not porous so it does not let water and moisture penetrate the wood. The rope is DuraCord, which is specially constructed to be just as soft as cotton and as durable as polyester. It is constructed of synthetic fibers that are designed to be soft to the touch while colorfast and durable in the outdoors. This rope resists the degrading effects of the sun and rain. DuraCord rope also dries faster than standard cotton or polyester. DuraCord extends the life of the chair as its materials are designed to resist mold or mildew. The finish is natural wood, which provides a rustic and more authentic look to the rocker. This chair also comes in a satin finish which provides a darker look to the wood.
